SWAT Exiles’ New Cast Is The Final Proof Season 9 Won’t Happen
The S.W.A.T. universe will only continue via its upcoming spinoff, as new information about SWAT Exiles proves that a ninth season of the original series won’t happen. Sony Pictures Television ordered the offshoot shortly after CBS released the SWAT season 8 finale, wanting to keep the franchise alive. So, despite SWAT‘s end, its future is exciting and bright.
Shemar Moore is set to return as Hondo in SWAT Exiles, where he resumes his leading role. In the spinoff, Hondo comes out of retirement to command a new, experimental tactical unit comprised of rookies, resulting in conflict surrounding the generational divide. As such, the cast features almost all new faces, aside from Hondo, meaning the offshoot could be a fresh start.
SWAT Exiles New Cast Members Confirm It Will Be Different Than The Original
The Spinoff’s Characters Are A Change Of Pace From The Original Series
It was previously announced that two original SWAT cast members guest star in the offshoot’s pilot. With that, it felt as though SWAT Exiles would essentially be season 9 in disguise. Since CBS canceled the original show, the theory was that Sony was just reviving it and slapping a new name on it. However, the casting of younger stars suggests otherwise.

SWAT Exiles Promises A Unique Take On The Cop Show Genre
The Upcoming Show’s Premise Is Intriguing
SWAT Exiles‘ exciting take on the procedural genre also separates it from its parent series. Unlike other cop shows, the SWAT offshoot revolves around the generational divide between Hondo and his fresh recruits. Due to their differing mindsets that come with being born decades apart, they are bound to clash. This theme is also quite relevant, making it all the more intriguing.
Let’s just hope that SWAT Exiles provides thoughtful insight into the generational divide. The series can’t just feature Hondo reminiscing about the good ol’ days and making jokes about how the younger generation is inferior. That won’t solve any problems and is redundant. The SWAT spinoff must explore this issue and work through it until the characters come to an understanding.
